striv´er, noun.
striv´ing|ly, adverb.
Usage Verbs borrowed from Old French normally have been conjugated in English with -ed in the past tense and past participle. Strive, an exception, was early attracted into the class of ride, drive, and the like. Alongside of stroveand striven, however, the form strived is also recorded from the fourteenth century and is still in use. At present it occurs more often as past participle than as past tense.
